J & D's Take-Out, Sooke BC

J & D's Take-out on Urbanspoon

Some might think that Red Fish-Blue Fish was the pioneer of building restaurants out of shipping containers; however, I believe the original was in Sooke. Formerly known as Fathers's Fish and Chips the new J & D's Take-Out also serves seafood out of a shipping container; in fact, I would imagine they have been doing it for much longer.

I have driven by J & D's (formerly Fathers's) for years now and finally decided to give it a go. My wife ordered the Halibut Wrap ($6.25) and I the Halibut Burger ($6.25). The burger halibut for the burger was deep fried and served on a pillowy soft bun, it was topped with tarter sauce, mayonnaise and a few pieces of lettuce. The burger seemed simple but tasted delicious. The fish was cooked to perfection; it had a crisp batter and flaky interior.

As for the wrap, the fish was baked or or pan fried and used the same simple ingredients as the burger. Unfortunately, the wrap was not as delicious as the burger, but it was still good.

If you're out and about in Sooke, stop by J & D's located on the corner of Edward Milne Rd and Sooke Rd you won't be dissapointed. The only thing this fish and chips place is missing is a waterfront view.
