Serious Pie - Seattle WA, USA

Serious Pie on Urbanspoon

Serious Pie - How about seriously good! This is one restaurant where I can honestly say even the equine crave the food. If you don't believe me, check out the photo. As we were waiting outside for a table we saw a Seattle police officer and his horse walking up the sidewalk; and I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen if myself, the horse was wanting to walk right into the restaurant.

As for the food, I have had wood fired pizzas before, but this was by far some of (if not) the best pizza I have ever eaten. Now it's not your normal delivery pizza, Serious Pie takes pizza to a whole new level. With succulent creations such as: roasted morel mushrooms, truffle cheese; and, penn cove clams, chilies, house pancetta, lemmon thyme. Really, how are you supposed to have just one?

Well, the answer is this - go at happy hour. You get any pizza you want in a tiny size (6 small pieces) for only $6. For only 6 bucks you can splurge and try a whole bunch. I will suggest that you save a little room for dessert as they are to die for.

If there are any criticisms to make (small ones at that) it would be that the server was kind of slow, but the food came out fast.

KUDOS to you Serious Pie - I will be back.

What I ate:
Pizza:
(2) roasted morel mushrooms, truffle cheese - $6 each

(1) sweet fennel sausage, roasted peppers, provolone - $6
Drinks:

Dessert:
(1) stacy's rhubarb semifreddo, lavender syrup, pistachios - $8

Pizzeria Prima Strada, Victoria (Bridge Street)

Pizzeria Prima Strada (Bridge St.) on Urbanspoon

After finding out Pizzeria Prima Strada was certified by the AVPN I couldn't wait to give them a try. I have heard many good, if not, great things about Prima Strada and today was going to be the day I found out for myself.

It was a rainy, windy, gloomy day, not atypical of a fall day in Victoria. My wife and I were looking for an excuse to get out of the elements in between various shopping locals (preparing for Christmas). What better excuse to quit shopping than to feed the hunger demon with some delicious Neapolitan pizza?

Prima Strada is located in Victoria's industrial area in an old garage. From the outside you wouldn't expect to find a trendy, modern style pizzeria, but that is exactly what you get.

No matter how a restaurant feels or represents itself, it is still only about the food. Why else would people keep going back to restaurants with crappy service other than an amazing meal. Lucky for Prima Strada, you don't have to worry about crappy service; in fact, I thought their service what quite good. The food wasn't that bad either!

My wife and I started off our meal with Piatto Grande ($15) - an assortment of cheese, meats, fresh bread and pickled vegetables.  The starter arrived promptly and definitely hit the spot. My favorite part of the Piatto Grande, as with any meal, was the smoked meats; specifically, their prosciutto and schinkenspeck.

Next came the Funghi pizza ($15); and this is where my only complaint will arise from. From the time we finished our appy to the time our pizza arrived was almost 30 minutes. Now, I don't mind waiting 30 minutes for a delicious meal, but I do mind when multiple other parties arrive after us and are server their pizzas before us. Having said all that, the wait was worth it. The pizza was delicious, even if it did lack slightly in the toppings department. Sorry, I said I wasn't going to bitch. The pizza was good; and if you are asking yourself... would I go back or recommend this restaurant to others? The answer is unequivocally, Yes!

The total bill for the Piatto Grande, the Funghi and to San Pellegrino's was about ($40 with tax). A little expensive for lunch for two, but worth checking out if you have never been.

Great Cannon 2 for 1 Pizza, Langford

Great Cannon 2 for 1 Pizza on Urbanspoon

I am not writing about Great Cannon Pizza to enlighten you on some magical, euphoric, aw-inspiring pizza experience; NO, I writing about Great Cannon to inform you about cheap pizza that tastes good when you are drinking; and, stays open later than most other pizza delivery companies in Langford.

While playing cards and having a couple of adult beverages my wife and I started craving pizza; however, every place we looked up was closed. Finally, while looking through the flyers that come in the junk mail we stumbled across Great Cannon.

The first thing that caught our eye was that it was cheap. The second being that it was free delivery. We ordered the Butter Chicken and the Great Classic pizzas (both smalls). Our bill came to $24 and it arrived at our door within 20 min.

Their pizza were loaded with tons of fresh toppings and they had a delectable buttery crust. Now I know what you are thinking...I must have enjoyed this pizza because I was drinking; you may be partially correct; however, I also ate it for breakfast this morning and still found it to be quite tasty.

I don't want you to get any misconceived notions about Great Cannon , this is not fine dining pizza, it is simply good old fashioned, greasy late night pizza!

Bonn appetite

Pizza Hut, Langford

I wouldn't normally think to blog about Pizza Hut; however, my experiences the other night have left me with no other choice. I must relay my dissatisfaction with their second rate chicken wings and their poorly trained staff.
